Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. Psalm 1:1-2
The Lord’s salvation is complete.
It is a blessing to know that our sins are forgiven, that we are clothed in Christ’s righteousness, and that we have a restored relationship with our Father in heaven. The world knows nothing of these freedoms.
Yet our freedoms do not stop there, for through the Spirit, we are sanctified to live in the light of God’s law. Many today would argue that freedom is found through self-exploration and living out our deepest, darkest desires, but true freedom can only be experienced when we live a life of worship and obedience to our heavenly Father, who gave his Son for us.
Have you felt the Spirit leading you back to his word this week, convicting you of sin and asking you to return? How gracious is our God that he does not leave us in our false freedom. Listen to him today, and do not harden your heart.
As I look forward to the next few weeks, I am thankful for all the opportunities the Lord will give us to sit under his word and spend time with his people. May the Lord bless us as we meet in Aberystwyth for the conferences. I pray that we will not only enjoy the Christian freedoms of holidaying together but also be serious about learning and being the people God wants us to be.
Thank you for praying for all that has been happening. Reports from the camps last week have been encouraging with obvious fruit. The Eisteddfod Mission has started along with three camps this week – please continue to pray.
In Christ alone,
Steffan Job
Assistant General Secretary
Monday, 5 August – The Eisteddfod at Pontypridd
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5
Today is the third day of the mission at the Eisteddfod. There have been many good conversations and many challenging ones. Pray for the team as they seek to share the gospel with those at the festival. Pray that the Lord will save many.
Tuesday, 6 August – Publication of ‘Plant y Duw Byw’
He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, Ephesians 1:5
‘Plant y Duw Byw’ (Children of the Living God) is a short Welsh book by Gwyn Davies that was published today. In it, Gwyn shows us the great blessings and responsibilities of being adopted as children of God. Pray that God would use this book to encourage Christians to live and share their faith.
Wednesday, 7 August – Camp Three, Four and Five
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! 1 Chronicles 16:11
Today is the halfway point of the week’s camps. Please pray for the campers. Pray that they will be saved and that the Christians will be encouraged and strengthened in their faith to be gospel witnesses back home and at their schools.
Thursday, 8 August – The Eisteddfod at Pontypridd
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
The team will be tired as they start the sixth day of the mission. Pray for wisdom and patience as they seek to serve people, showing love and sharing the gospel. Pray that many would be saved.
Friday, 9 August – The English Conference at Aberystwyth
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
Today, God willing, the stewards and tech teams will be turning up to Aberystwyth to set up for the English Conference. Please pray for the practicalities and logistics of organising a conference for over a thousand people. Above all please pray that the Lord would prepare the hearts of his children to hear and respond to his word.
Saturday, 10 August – Camp Nine and the Welsh Language Camps
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
It is another hectic day, with three camps finishing and three starting. Pray for all the practicalities with buses and travel, and pray for the camp teams. Paul Daniel and Ruth Harris lead camp 9 (Outdoor) with Jim Grindell as chaplain speaking on ‘Encountering God’. The Welsh younger camp takes place at Pentrenant Hall with Aled Lewis and Leri George leading and Derrick Adams speaking on Proverbs. The older Welsh camp at Bryn-y-groes is led by Ben Nuss, Angharad Jenkins, and chaplain Rhodri Glyn speaking on Colossians.
