Housekeeping & Catering Assistant
Evangelical Movement of Wales – Bryn-y-groes Conference Centre, Bala
(One post 32 hours per week or two posts 16 hours per week)
Bryn-y-groes is a busy residential Christian Conference Centre, owned by the Evangelical Movement of Wales, in the town of Bala, North Wales. The centre can cater for up to 75 people. It provides weekend, mid-week and day accommodation for summer youth camps, church and family groups, university and college Christian Unions and house parties, school residential groups, retreats and Christian holidays, pastors’ training and conferences, as well as non-Christian groups. It provides full board catering or optional self-catering. There is a large traditional house, as well as a new-built annexe and self-catering flat. The centre is open throughout the year and is at its busiest between Easter and the end of October.
Reporting to the Conference Centre Managers the purpose of the role is to assist with housekeeping and catering functions as required by users of the site. The main responsibilities are as follows:
- Housekeeping – cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas; preparing the building for guests; laundry and making beds as needed; deep cleaning at certain times of the year; informing management of any maintenance issues.
- Catering – assisting the catering manager in preparing the dining room; food preparation; batch baking; serving; dishwashing; food hygiene duties; liaising with guests regarding special dietary needs. With experience and training the successful candidate must be able to step up to manage the kitchen independently when necessary.
The successful applicant will work well as a member of a team and respect the Christian ethos of the Conference Centre. They will also be able to work in accordance with all the relevant policies and procedures, taking responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others. The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable. A DBS check is required.
The role is available as one post of 32 hours per week, or two posts, each of 16 hours per week. In both cases, flexible working, including shifts and weekend work is required.
