Corona Virus – 19/3/2020 further update by EMW
Following our statement yesterday on the Covid-19 situation we are sending a further update relating to our summer activities, news of our financial situation and the set-up of some support structures to help people during these times.
After much prayer and consideration, we would like to share the following:
- All EMW summer camps have been cancelled. We’re looking at other possibilities including running camps later in the year and will release information in due course.
- Both EMW summer conferences in Aberystwyth have been cancelled. Again, we are looking at the possibility of running the conferences at a different time or using a different model during the summer.
- All who have booked for these events will be contacted over the next week with details and/or to offer full refunds (or the ability to carry payment over to other EMW events).
Although we are saddened to have to make these decisions, and we know that many will be disappointed, we are convinced that this is the correct course of action as we try and move forward in a responsible manner.
As Christians and a Christian organisation, we are comforted in knowing that God is in control of everything and we look at the next few months as an opportunity to serve Him in different ways and share the good news of the gospel.
In this vein, we want to announce the set up of a new website dedicated to help the church during the COVID-19 outbreak. The website will be launched in the next few days and will contain sections for adults, for those searching for answers, for Church leaders and for youth.
We would like all our supporters to know that we have not made any of these decisions lightly and have been working hard with our trustees and financial advisers. We’ll be offering full refunds to all our customers regardless of contracts/T&Cs as we believe that this is the correct things to do. We estimate that cancelling these events will cost the EMW £200,000, and we are therefore asking for prayer in relation to this matter. Although they are challenging times, we fully trust the Lord and our staff are dedicated to help the Church and Christians to make the most of this time.
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor. 12:10
