The author is a Professor of Theology in Women’s Studies in Texas. Don’t be put off – her prose style is easy and the material accessible. The length of this book belies the depth of its content. It manages to be readable, scholarly, devotional, applied and challenging, all at once. The format of the book, for example the inductive questions, means that it could be used for personal or group study and there is certainly plenty to think about. The author is no feminist but neither does she downplay the ministry of a number of women in the preparation of this great leader of God’s people. I enjoyed the occasional “Dorothy’s Dictum” – the little pithy sayings which give food for thought.
“Dorothy’s Dictum. God knows the circumstances of life in advance. He expects us to seek His face on our responses to the events of life.” (page 98).
