Book reviews Mar/Apr 2011 — 20 April 2011
A place of healing

Here is Joni, quadriplegic for four decades, as she now reflects on her struggle with chronic pain. The book is written in an easy style, it’s almost like having a conversation with the author in your own home! Yet she never fails to be biblical and deeply theological as she seeks answers to the questions of pain, suffering and God’s sovereignty. There are plenty of anecdotes so that the prose isn’t heavy and academic. Joni gives advice to others – she doesn’t patronise, she shares her own coping strategies and the faith that inspires them. The book closes with her announcement of a recent diagnosis of breast cancer. Is she despondent and ready to give up? No, she’s ‘not about to waste this breast cancer!’
