Growing up… growing wise

CD and four lesson books

The subject of sex education in schools has been of great concern to Christian parents as the last government was releasing plans for sex education at younger ages and compulsory sex education from the age of fifteen.

The Christian Charity Lovewise has produced a comprehensive resource that includes the basics of the biology of puberty and sex within a framework of love and marriage. The authors are both doctors so teachers can be confident in the accuracy and appropriateness of the information given. The material is clear on the Bible’s teaching on these subjects and this is done in a sensitive way.

This CD and four lesson books are a resource for schools about friendship, puberty, love and marriage, aimed at Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6). The CD contains all you need to present four lessons.

Each presentation consists of Powerpoint slides and video clips, featuring a real-life couple. The CD also contains class worksheets which can also be displayed on an interactive whiteboard. Lesson plans are included – everything you need to run this course as part of the PHSE curriculum. The slide presentations can be interactive and there is plenty of scope for class discussion.

A Welsh version of this resource is also available, Priodas, Rhyw and Byw yn Ddoeth. All the slides and scripts have been translated but the videos remain in English, apart from a video of a Welsh language wedding ceremony. An excellent resource for Welsh medium schools.
