Nov/Dec 2009 Testimony — 11 December 2009
A week on outdoor camp

Saturday

Arrived on site in time to help set up. Feeling nervous about meeting the kids in my tent – will they want to do Bible studies? Will they listen to me? Will they like me?

Fears at rest! Campers are great. Some knew each other from last year, and all are excited about the week ahead. One is even looking forward to the teaching!

Sunday

Good time spent getting to know campers better. I think most of our group are Christians. They all go to church and most are happy to talk about following Christ and reading the Bible. One seems less interested, although they know all the right answers anyway!

Monday

Talks and Bible studies are going well, although I’m feeling nervous about leading my first study tomorrow. I’m going over it with the chaplain later. Pretty wet today. Think my feet may stay wet all week!

Tuesday

My first Bible study wasn’t a disaster! I talked a bit too much because I was nervous, so the kids were quieter, but apart from that it was ok. The other tent officer was really encouraging and the way a few of the campers prayed afterwards showed they’d got the main point.

Great wide game in the field this afternoon. Thought I was fit but am so tired!

Wednesday

Really tired now after lots of nights without much sleep. Campers seem tired too. Had a good chat with my group about how they struggle living like a Christian at school, where they don’t have any Christian friends. Prayed together about how they could talk about the things they’ve learnt on camp with friends when they get back. Also talked about how we need to make sure we don’t become ‘Sunday Christians’. Might see if the bookstall has anything they’d find helpful.

Thursday

One of the campers gave his testimony tonight, which I think everyone found really challenging. Great to hear someone that young praise God for His work in his life!

Friday

Had brief nap this morning during activities. Leaders are good at making sure we don’t ‘burn out’. Then went on a trip out with silly games – fun times!

Saturday

Can’t believe the week’s over! Feel tired yet refreshed having seen God working – answering prayers for clear teaching, open hearts, dry weather (when essential!), behaviour, etc. Made great friends and humbled to have met the campers and been a part of sharing the gospel with them. Looking forward to next year already.
