Here is an excellent little book. It does what is says on the cover! It is an introduction to thinking through the challenges put forth against God’s creative activity. It is clearly aimed at those who have a limited scientific training, which probably includes most of us, and written by a man with a background in biology who has a pastor’s heart.
Chris Pegington has done a fine job and writes as a young earth, literal six day creationist. Written in a warm and winsome style that is easy to read and deliberately using non-technical language, the author helps us understand the straw-men of evolutionary thinking. In eleven brief chapters, which can be easily read in fifteen minutes sessions, Chris explores general and specific evolution, intelligent design, genetic mutations, fossils, radioactive dating and origins. The two chapters on fossils are particularly helpful. Each chapter is nicely set out in small simple paragraphs, each dealing with a specific issue. Plenty of examples are quoted to illustrate the principle being discussed and each chapter ends with a useful summary that either makes an important point or poses an important question. The closing chapter entitled ‘the bible’s story’ is a lovely reasoned appeal to put one’s faith in Christ. Here is a helpful addition to any Christian’s library.
